ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF
BUILDING & ELECTRICAL
Jim Mischel, Associate Director, is responsible for the Building
and Electrical offices. Jim joined the staff in July 1984
and later became Associate Director of the Housing, Building
and Electrical Offices. He has maintained certifications with
BOCA International and the Commonwealth of Kentucky. He currently
holds the following certifications:
One and Two family Dwelling Inspector
Level I Building Inspector
Level II Building Inspector
Level III Plans and Specifications Inspector
An
Owensboro native, Jim graduated from Owensboro Catholic High
School in 1972. After receiving his Associate Degree in Architecture
from the University of Kentucky in 1980, he worked for seven
years as a private building contractor in Lexington, Kentucky.
Jim is usually the first person that the public sees concerning
building, zoning, signs, and parking lot projects. Below is
a generalized summary of Jim's duties.
Building Projects:
Assists with building permit applications
Verifies setbacks to insure that all projects are in
compliance with established ordinances
Plan Review (insures that projects comply with the
Kentucky Building Code)
Acts as liaison between permit applicant and the various
agencies such as Planning, Engineering and Regional Water
Resource Agency
Issues building, sign and parking lot permits upon
approval
Zoning Projects:
Provides zoning information to businesses and individuals
Investigates complaints of zoning code violations such
as excessive garage sales, fencing disputes, and operation
of businesses in residential zones
Provides zoning information to new businesses and existing
businesses wishing to expand.
