Billboard Sign Regulation Amendments for unincorporated Daviess County and City of Whitesville:
These amendments revise the text of the Sign Regulations of the the Zoning Ordinance for areas of Daviess County outside the City of Owensboro. Owensboro prohibited new billboards in 1989.
The OMPC held 2 public hearings and on September 13, 2001, voted unanimously to recommend approval to the Daviess County Fiscal Court and the Whitesville City Commission.
Daviess County Fiscal Court ADOPTED the amendments on December 6, 2001.
The Whitesville City Commission has decided NOT to consider adoption of the proposed amendments as of December 10, 2001, according to Whitesville City Clerk Pat Burch.
Summary of the Billboard Zoning Text Amendments:
Reduce
the allowed maximum size (both height and area) of new billboard signs.
Increase the minimum required spacing between billboards.
Increase the minimum required setbacks from residential uses and schools.
Limit the allowed locations of billboard signs along designated scenic
highways/byways.
Limit each billboard to two sign faces, one per each side of the sign.
Prohibit the attachment of billboards to buildings.
Permit nonconforming billboards to be repaired or replaced subject to
limitations.
